2020 sees the dawn of a new era in South African sporthorse auctions as Capital Stud gears up to host its first-ever online auction in the wake of the global pandemic. The annual Capital Stud auction is a regular highlight on the showjumping calendar amongst many with the sale of top quality horses, both locally-bred and imported, attracting large crowds ready to bid or simply spectate. Ahead of the action, which runs from the 23rd to the 28th of November, Capital has released the videos of all 44 of the horses that will be going under the virtual hammer, giving us a preview of the quality on display.
This year’s auction, despite being hosted online instead of being a live event, looks to be no less exciting than previous events, with the auction lots featuring internationally recognised bloodlines such as Arezzo, Douglas, Bubalu, Capital Colnardo, Zirocco Blue, and Numero Uno to mention a few. With successful breeding stallions linked to the Capital Stud such as Don Cumarco, Hitoshi, Kronos, and Colnardo, the locally-bred horses are sure to be as impressive and talented as any import available on the auction.
Ahead of the auction, try-outs will be held between October 12th and November 20th. The videos give you a first look at the potential purchase but the try-outs allow riders to visit the Capital Stud and familiarise themselves with their intended horse and decide from there whether or not to go ahead with the bidding.
The auction will go live on November 23rd via the Capital Stud website where buyers will have a few days to get their bids in on the 44 horses available. Auction lots will be separated into 3 categories and the hammer will come down for each category on the 26th, 27th, and 28th of November, respectively.
Previous auction years have already proven the Capital Stud’s quality with several of the 2018 and 2019 auction horses making their way into the limelight. The likes of Capital Moonlight (Chin Win/Chacco Blue) and Capital Magic Boy (Toulon/Darco) have continued to impress onlookers with their scope, power, and overall attitude to jumping. Both of these special horses are currently competing in the 1.30s with Kelly O’Connor and Ronnie Healy, respectively, and both look set for incredible careers in the open grades.
Make sure to keep an eye on the Capital Stud – Warmblood Champions Facebook page for more details pertaining to the auction.
