The start of the 2021 showjumping season has been a great mix of provincial and national events, and a great opportunity for many riders to get their youngsters out before the calendar gets hectic. The Puresan Stokkiesdraai saw its own share of new youngsters with Capital Ayden making his debut with Neriske Prinsloo Hill and Callaho Conny Will also stepping out into the spotlight with Gareth Neill. But, Burlington stables also joined in on the action by hosting a few new youngsters this past weekend including Capital Cole.
Purchased off the 2020 Capital Auction, Capital Cole, by Capital Chicoletto Z out of a Capital Colnardo mare, was the second-highest seller, attracting 40 bids before the virtual hammer dropped. The handsome gelding was sold to Bronwyn Dos Santos and has since been learning the ropes and preparing for his competitive career. While Bronwyn was not the rider on Cole’s back at his debut event, the gelding still performed superbly under Zdenek Muchna.
Zdenek Muchna, or Zden as he is more commonly known by many, has been a top-level campaigner in the showjumping industry for many years both in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal. With a great string of quality horses underneath him, his competitiveness and talent are accentuated by his strong coaching abilities and his exceptional knack for producing young horses. His connections with Browyn have often seen him schooling her youngsters and assisting with her horses when she is unavailable and this has provided the opportunity for Zden to debut one of the most sought after horses from the Capital auction.
Based out of the Manor D’or Exclusive Equine Management facility in Bridle Park, Midrand, Zden’s abilities have shone brightly in the industry making him the first step for many owners when looking for a suitable rider. Manor D’or Saint D’or, Kaskia, Armageddon, and Mardi van het Leliehof are just some of the top quality horses that have excelled in the competitive arena due to Zden’s abilities and with his fantastic track record, it’s little wonder that he is now a first choice for youngsters as well.
The debut event for Zden and Cole saw the pair competing at Burlington Stables in the 90cm competitions, and with 2 clean rounds, Cole looked relaxed, confident, and eager to fulfil his duties. With their first event a success, the future certainly looks bright for the young gelding and hopefully, within a handful of years, he’ll be an open-grade campaigner.
