The WBFSH Top 100 Showjumping Stallions for 2020

Every year in November, the WBFSH (World Breeders Federation of Sport Horses) ranks its top 100 stallions on a points-based system relevant to their performance over the course of the year from October 1st to September 30th as well as the performance of their progeny. The more difficult the competition, and the higher the prize money available,  the more points available to the stallions. With a large majority of the listed stallions having progeny competing in South Africa, we decided to highlight the incredible bloodlines that are now available to South African breeders from local stallions.

WBFSH Top 100 by the performance of their progeny and the largest difference between the rider rankings and the stallion rankings is the time frame in which points are allocated. Points allocated to the rider rankings are on-going whereas the stallion rankings are calculated over a fixed time frame. Points are only awarded to the top 16 placed horses and/or the sires of those top 16 for each competition.

Bonus points can also be allocated to horses competing at special competitions such as the Olympic Games. While the ranking of stallions changes annually due to several factors, the number one position has been retained by Chacco-Blue with 18,438 points, who has been highly successful on the international jumping circuit and his progeny, including The Burgh’s Epomein who is competed by Charley-Ann Crockart in the 1.50m classes for owners Leoni and Stan van der Burgh, continue to showcase his qualities as a sire with their own incredible performances on the global circuit. The 2nd place position has also been awarded to the same stallion as last year, Diamant De Semilly with 11,375 points.
