Due to the global coronavirus pandemic, the FEI’s 2020 General Assembly has been held online for the first time. The 1st of the two board meetings, hosted on November 18th, yielded a number of updates pertaining to various aspects of the sport, including current running of events under COVID regulations, and the appointment of the FEI Technical Committee for the 2020-2024 period. The big news coming out of the Technical Committee appointments is that Diane Baxter, South African FEI 3* showjumping judge and steward, has been appointed as a member of the FEI Jumping Committee, replacing Kazuya Hirayama.
Di Baxter has many years of experience servicing the sport of showjumping. In addition to her role as an official, she has served on both provincial and national committees. She currently serves on the KZN Showjumping committee as president, and for the last three years has served on the SASJ EXCO handling the Officials portfolio.
Other highlights from the first of two meetings comprising the 2020 General Assembly included confirmation that the FEI’s current Return to Play policy will remain unchanged with regards to equestrian competition. Additionally, the FEI has granted emergency changes to certain rules regarding the number of starters in Grand Prix CSI 4* and 5* events, increasing this to 60 and 55, respectively.
The board agreed on updates to rules for 2021, particularly those for the Longines Ranking Jumping Calculations, as well as clarifications on the FEI Jumping Nations Cup Rules, and technical modifications to the Longines Global Champions League and Global Champions Tour rules. Amendments to the proposed 2021 Jumping Rules were also proposed, with the final vote on these to take place at the FEI General Assembly meeting on November 23, 2020.
The FEI has also confirmed that the FEI World Jumping Challenge Final 2021 will take place in Indonesia, with the event taking place in September 2021.
