Chad Cunningham is Growing his String

Many in the industry will be aware of the name, Chad Cunningham, who has had an instrumental role in the success of his 1.50m pupil, Carl Boonzaaier, and his numerous young pupils across South Africa and abroad under his equestrian team umbrella, Chambourne Team, with previous accolades including being Chef d’Equipe for the African team at the most recent Youth Olympic Games. He has also regularly been on the competition side of things with an array of horses including Hykenichi van’t Huka and the late Dino, who was active in the 1.50m levels until Chad’s competition hiatus which saw him focus on his coaching primarily with aid from South African legend, Gonda Betrix.

After several notable changes for Chad with the relocation of his team base to the host venue of the Riders Series, his new base of operations has enabled him to progressively pursue his competitive side once again and he has added a further 3 new horses to his string after his previous acquisitions of Cracker Jack D and Capital Clarissimo II.

In the last 6-8 weeks, Chad’s focus on competition has seen the thoroughbred mare What A Jewel, by Model Man out of a Complete Warrior mare, and thoroughbred gelding Chappaquiddick, by Mullins Bay out of an Alami mare, become a part of his active competition string. Adding further, his long term prospect and most recent team member is Lagan, a newborn colt by Bronwyn Dos Santos’s Capital Levubu. Levubu is creating a name for himself as a prominent sire with another foal on the ground, Lagavulin. Lagan, however, is out of Sisi de Rechri Z, who was a successful partner for Chad up to the 1.40m heights before she retired from competition at the end of 2016*.

The multiple additions are highly exciting for all showjumping fans and we look forward to seeing Chad work his way back up into the 1.50m ranks.
