Leona van der Merwe (nee van Amstel) is a professional equestrian and one half of the husband and wife duo alongside Chris van der Merwe that operates out of the Blouberg Stables near Vivo in Limpopo. Leona rose through the junior ranks as a promising young talent and fluidly transferred into the adult categories where she quickly rose to the top levels with Zazou, Capital Homerus, Capital Cavalier, and Capital Cascord. Leona hails from an equestrian family, with sister Marlize the founder and owner of Blouberg Stables where Leona instructs a number of students. Leona is also an avid breeder of horses.
While she is yet to claim any major titles at the top levels, a number of placings and podium finishes are under her belt.
