On October 1st 2020, the news broke, out of the Morrison Sporthorses setup in Kyalami, of the passing of their treasured warmblood gelding, Alzu Luanda.

Luanda was born in 2002 at the Alzu Stud, and was a tall, athletic gelding by Alzu Landego out of an Optimum v.d. Wellington mare. Known for his agility and great adjustability, Luanda became formidable as a competitor at the top level of the sport under the guidance of Peter Morrison and later on with Peter’s son, Matthew. An extremely versatile horse, he was as capable of jumping a World Cup track as he was a derby or outdoor grand Prix and would do so with great ease.

In April 2016, young Matthew Morrison took over the ride on Luanda from Peter to further his junior career. Matthew and the gelding quickly developed a strong partnership and went on to win numerous junior titles as well as gaining some incredible experience before Luanda’s retirement in 2019.

Unfortunately, at just 18-years-old, the passing of this wonderful horse is a shock to all and we send our condolences to the Morrison Family.
