It’s that time of year once again where throngs of people from around the country are eagerly anticipating the start of the 2021 Callaho Warmblood Stud Auction. With a slight edit to their format this year, the Stud is offering 22 horses for auction in their Callaho Winter Collection and will be hosting a second auction in the latter half of the year for the remaining 20 odd horses available.

For those who are eagerly anticipating the start of the Callaho Winter Collection bidding, you’re in for a treat with 20 spectacular sport horses available alongside the 2 broodmares, which will certainly be snapped up by those looking to follow the breeding route.
With the top quality selection available, we take a look at our personal top picks and who we think will be the ones to put your money on.
Lot Number 2: Callaho Balvenie
Callaho Balvenie is a 4-year-old chestnut mare by Bolzano du Quinzy out of an Escudo I mare and despite her small stature, at only 16.0hh, Balvenie’s athletic abilities are apparent in her free-jumping videos as the mare appears very light-footed and simply ‘springs’ off the ground. Although she is very young and her technique still needs to develop further, the initial impressions are extremely positive and this is definitely a mare for the future.
The common phrase “A great chestnut mare will always be a winner” is one that springs to mind with Balvenie and partnered with the right rider, she will certainly be a winner in the future. Callaho reviewed the mare by saying “Although a petite, sensitive mare, Balvenie packs a serious punch with a unique jumping technique [that] offers more than a glimmer of what is still to come” and this is evident when you see her video attached to her profile.
Lot Number 9: Callaho Lebanon
Callaho Lebanon appears to have all the right qualities when it comes to a top competitive horse. With the Callaho Warmblood Stud’s rating system giving him a full 3 stars in Showjumping and Eventing, and 2 stars for Dressage, this very attractive gelding has elastic paces, quick reflexes, and a superb attitude. Sired by former top jumper, Callaho Lissabon, Lebanon is sure to be one of the most widely desired at the upcoming auction.
Callaho Warmblood Stud reviewed the gelding by saying “Lebanon defines modern breeding” and continued by adding “this is a sport-horse par supreme”. At 16.2hh, the 4-year-old gelding is tall, nimble, and athletic and that will surely see him develop into a highly competitive open grade horse. With several half-siblings on the competitive circuit, perhaps the one that springs to mind as the most similar is Callaho Lexington who is competed by Jeanne Korber in the 1.50m ranks. With a lineage that displays winning international horses such as Prinz, a 1.60m International Perigueux gelding competed by Hans Dieter Dreher, who is the half-sister to Lebanon’s grandmother, it’s not hard to see why this striking gelding will be highly sought after.
Lot Number 13: Callaho Tel Aviv
Callaho Tel Aviv is a gorgeous grey gelding, standing at 16.1hh, by Tolano Van’t Riethof out of a Clinton mare. By the same stallion as Jeanne Korber’s recently acquired Callaho Talana, this is another top pick by the Callaho team with a 3-star rating for Showjumping and Eventing and a 2-star rating for both Dressage and Showing. A full all-rounder with his capabilities coupled with incredible bloodlines, Tel Aviv is certainly going to be a popular pick for any serious competitor.
His 2nd Dam, Cassina, has been a star broodmare for the stud having produced highly competitive horses including Con Casino (1.30m), Lord Cassini (1.35m), Conrado (1.35m), and Lucetto (1.30m) which further cements the notion that his future competitiveness will see him confidently in the top heights. This same dam produced International 1.60m jumpers, Van Schindel’s Optical (an Athletico stallion) with Piet Raijmakers and Perpetua (a Lux Z mare) with Willem Greve.
And, for those bloodline buffs who garner a little more confidence in the horse, Tel Aviv’s 3rd dam, Weise Dame, is also the grandmother of Jos Lansink’s World Equestrian Games winning parter, Cumano. With his blue blood and natural abilities, Tel Aviv is certainly a horse that is destined for the top.
Lot Number 18: Callaho Siguine
Callaho Siguine is a 16.2hh dark bay mare by Callaho Sampras out of an Olala De Buissy mare and is a very sensitive natured horse. Recommended for a professional rider only, Siguine has a full 3-star rating for her jumping abilities. Despite her quirks and sensitivities, her proven bloodlines are showcased in her extravagant jump, elastic movements, and tenacity.
Her current displays give an educated idea as to the future this young mare holds and coupled with the right rider who will provide her with patient mentorship, Siguine is sure to see the open grades and follow in her late father’s competitive hoof steps.
Whether you’re looking for a horse that will take you to the top or a horse that will boost your confidence, Callaho Warmblood Stud’s Winter Collection has a suitable partner for every buyer and with a superb collection on offer for their first auction, we can only imagine the quality that will be available later on in the year.
