As we close out the second month of the year with the conclusion of the 2021 Stokkiesdraai Cup incorporating the Riders Grand Prix, we take a look back at the stories that our viewers enjoyed the most.

No.4: Barry Taylor Sidelined with Injury

The 2021 showjumping calendar started off with some great moments, but also some unfortunate accidents. The first national show of the year, held at Kyalami Equestrian Park, saw Barry Taylor sidelined with an injury, however, we’re certain that Barry will be back in the saddle as soon as possible.

Although it was originally published back in November, with the national show season kicking off this month, it’s worth staying up to date with 2021’s biggest rule change – hind boots. These rules are now applicable to all age categories, all height categories, and every show – regardless of status – from training events to World Cup Qualifiers. No.1: Tragedy Strikes at Reonet Riders Grand Prix for Ian van Schalkwyk

After a year out of the saddle following his awful leg break, Ian van Schalkwyk’s return to open showjumping was highly anticipated. However, his return was not to be as an accident in the warm-up arena saw Ian sidelined once again. Following the injury, the announcement was made that Ian’s top horse, Kuda Insurance Capital Don Costello, would be available for purchase.

The Month Ahead:

Looking ahead to the month of March, the month will be mostly quiet on the national show front, however, the Erreplus President’s Cup will take place at Maple Ridge Equestrian Farm from the 10th to the 14th. After the revamp of the main arena, this year’s President’s Cup will be adding excitement as top riders across the country come to try out the new surface and compete for their chance to dethrone Nicola Sime-Riley and claim the title of President’s Cup Champion.
