After an exciting week of showjumping near the Cradle of Humankind, the first of four President’s Cup titles for 2021, the Children’s President’s Cup, was concluded on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Maple Ridge Equestrian Farm. The venue was set out beautifully with the sponsor’s banners adorning the premises, and the riders all well prepared to take on the Brett Webber (FEI 2*) tracks in a freshly relaid fibre arena.
In the build-up, the first competition was hosted on Thursday afternoon as a traditional A2 competition, one round on time. With Spurwing on board as the primary sponsor for the Children’s classes, the prizes available were fantastic and had the children upping their game to claim victory. The Brett Webber track had plenty of turns available to the competitors and the riders delivered great rounds for the onlookers to marvel at. Claiming the victory in the A2 competition, and first of the 3 in the President’s Cup title competition, was Nicolas Du Plooy and Callaho Faberge – the 2020 CH President’s Cup champions – whilst 2nd was the young RotoFlo rider, Janine Coetzee with her superb mare RotoFlo Quiletta.
The conclusion of their first competition had the riders quite confident for the remaining tracks ahead of them and this confidence was apparent as both winners from the A2 competition once again claimed the top 2 spots, but, this time the roles were swapped. Taking the victory in the jump-off competition, sponsored by Spurwing, was Janine Coetzee and RotoFlo Quiletta and in 2nd place, Nicolas Du Plooy and Callaho Faberge. With both riders obtaining first and 2nd place, they would both move into the final competition with great starting positions.
As the final day rolled around for the young riders, their determination, stamina, and consistency proved to be a great asset as the competitors rose to the occasion. However, consistency would be key and with a great week of jumping behind her, Janine showed her mettle by riding her heart out to claim the victory and the title of 2021 Children’s President’s Cup Champion. The title victory was capped off by the addition of all the sponsored prizes and the wonderful trophy that will have Janine’s name etched in it forevermore.
