The Children on Horses category at the 2020 President’s Cup was a somewhat different affair to the other categories. With numbers in this category relatively small by comparison to others, competition would be tough. The first of 3 competitions making up the President’s Cup took place over a 1.10m A2-style competition with the winner, Mikaela Martin, riding the self-bred and produced Penbritte’s Quicksilver. The 2nd place podium spot went the way of Nicolas du Plooy riding Callaho Faberge, and in 3rd place was Franlaren Beau de Lune ridden by Holly Smith.
The riders returned for the 2nd leg of the title competition, this time competing over one round with a jump-off. A few new faces were seen in the line up with the win claimed by Kylie van der Westhuizen on the leggy thoroughbred mare, Lundy’s Time. Showing his consistency, Nicolas took 2nd place once again on Callaho Faberge, with 3rd being awarded to Janine Coetzee riding Rotoflo Quiletta.
With a number of riders in the placings in preliminary rounds, the Ric-Hansen Projects-sponsored final event could have gone to any of the 7 competing riders. The final class was held over two rounds at 1.15m in height designed by FEI 3* builder, Kate Launder. With 2 places on offer, Nicolas du Plooy’s consistency came to the fore, claiming victory in the 2020 CH President’s Cup and rounding out a fantastic show for him. The result added another feather in the cap of coach, Ronnie Healy, with a number of the RH Equestrian pupils making headlines this week. 2nd place went to Mikaela Martin of Penbritte Equestrian Centre riding Quicksilver capping off a successful weekend for the Penbritte team.
